COVID’s New Reality
I wrote the following essay in April of 2020 as we struggled across the world with Covid’s new reality. It circulated among in both English and Spanish among my friends.

Where are we today?
The Zapatistas in Chiapas, Mexico warned us long ago that “another world is necessary.” To make this happen we must exit from the development paradigm of the neoliberal new world order and return to a future of non-violent relationships between ourselves and the planet we call home. Another world has indeed arrived, and perhaps it will soon lead to the vision the Zapatistas articulated over the past twenty-five years.
Where are we exactly? We are in a globalized moment of social isolation. Unless we are living with our closest relatives, we have lost physical contact with those we love—our children, our grandchildren, our friends, our church, our colleagues, our neighbors. We can no longer break bread with our communities.
How do we make sense of this new social isolation in the world? There are many explanations, undergirded by ideologies that shape the way we perceive our global circumstances. Perhaps most popular is the notion that a virus has either escaped a laboratory created for bioweaponry against humanity or it has evolved on its own in response to our poor stewardship of our natural resources. Mother earth has to do some house cleaning because the “developed countries” have not heeded the call to slow down its demands of the earth. The planet warned us through climate changes and catastrophes, but the wealthy among us have prevailed in our global denial of the need to change the way we live.
We are all vulnerable—some of us more than others. Those of us who believe in Adam Smith’s idea that the environment and laborers are expendable can accept that the earth is purging the global population of its poor and elderly who no longer serve the capitalist enterprise. And the earth has been given a respite to re-gather her energies for even more domination and exploitation in the new world to come. There are many sub-scenarios about the “deep state” trying to wrest control of the entire world population, and the “fake news” that there really is a virus at work in our bodies. These are the tales that fill our days.
But there is another story. Eight years ago began a movement in the cosmos: our solar system passed through a portal that leads to another dimension of living much closer to the Zapatista vision for world happiness. This passage is from the third dimension of the material world of capitalist growth to the fourth and fifth dimensions where humans behave at much higher frequencies with strong spiritual values of love and cooperation. Like the change from pony express mail to cell phone texting, our collective crossing over to these higher dimensions creates an exponential change in our thinking and actions. In the fifth dimension, we can process information with much more efficiency. Working a higher vibrations, both problems and solutions occur at much greater speed. In this new world, the cultural values of the 20th century no longer serve us. Wars are passe and violence toward one another is not tolerated. Co-creation for the good of everyone replaces capitalism for the privileged few, oppression gives way to liberation, etc. Most importantly, the mindset of globalized industrialism no longer functions and those unable to make the leap in consciousness will whither on the vine in the third dimension, unable to meet the requirements for living on the new earth.
Underlying this vision of a fifth dimension is a belief in the capacity of humans to claim their direct connection to a divine reality and to live the values of love and justice, cooperation and sharing, joy and sorrow. These values have been alive (and ignored by the developed world) in the ancient traditions of indigenous communities the world over. The transition from the astrological Piscean Age to the new Aquarian era is made easier as we go back to the future by reclaiming the lessons of Zapatismo. There we understand that as our consciousness changes and our frequencies rise, we see each other as one family moving into a world where there is room for everyone. We are no longer individuals competing for scarce resources to survive. We are in this together. “I” becomes “We” as we make instantaneous connection to the source of life that is Spirit. We belong to the earth as much as earth belongs to us. My community becomes the entire world population. We all have a place at the table of life.

Donde estamos hoy
Los zapatistas en Chiapas, México, nos advirtieron hace mucho tiempo que “otro mundo es necesario”. Para que esto suceda, debemos salir del paradigma de desarrollo del nuevo orden mundial neoliberal y regresar a un futuro de relaciones no violentas entre nosotros y el planeta que llamamos hogar. De hecho, ha llegado otro mundo, y quizás pronto conduzca a la visión que los zapatistas articularon en los últimos veinticinco años.
¿Dónde estamos exactamente? Estamos en un momento globalizado de aislamiento social. A menos que vivamos con nuestros parientes más cercanos, hemos perdido el contacto físico con aquellos que amamos: nuestros hijos, nuestros nietos, nuestros amigos, nuestra iglesia, nuestros colegas, nuestros vecinos. Ya no podemos partir el pan con nuestras comunidades.
¿Cómo damos sentido a este nuevo aislamiento social en el mundo? Hay muchas explicaciones, respaldadas por ideologías que dan forma a la forma en que percibimos nuestras circunstancias globales. Quizás lo más popular es la noción de que un virus ha escapado de un laboratorio creado para bioarmas contra la humanidad o ha evolucionado por sí solo en respuesta a nuestra pobre administración de nuestros recursos naturales. La madre tierra tiene que hacer un poco de limpieza de la casa porque los “países desarrollados” no han escuchado el llamado a frenar sus demandas de la tierra. El planeta nos advirtió a través de los cambios climáticos y las catástrofes, pero los ricos entre nosotros han prevalecido en nuestra negación global de la necesidad de cambiar la forma en que vivimos.
Todos somos vulnerables, algunos de nosotros más que otros. Aquellos de nosotros que creemos en la idea de Adam Smith de que el medio ambiente y los trabajadores son prescindibles podemos aceptar que la tierra está purgando a la población mundial de sus pobres y ancianos que ya no sirven a la empresa capitalista. Y a la tierra se le ha dado un respiro para reunir sus energías para una mayor dominación y explotación en el nuevo mundo por venir. Hay muchos subescenarios sobre el “estado profundo” que intenta arrebatar el control de toda la población mundial, y las “noticias falsas” de que realmente hay un virus en funcionamiento en nuestros cuerpos. Estas son las historias que llenan nuestros días.
Pero hay otra historia. Hace ocho años comenzó un movimiento en el cosmos: nuestro sistema solar pasó a través de un portal que conduce a otra dimensión de vivir mucho más cerca de la visión zapatista de la felicidad mundial. Este pasaje es de la tercera dimensión del mundo material del crecimiento capitalista a la cuarta y quinta dimensiones donde los humanos se comportan a frecuencias mucho más altas con fuertes valores espirituales de amor y cooperación. Al igual que el cambio de correo urgente de pony a mensajes de texto de teléfonos celulares, nuestro cruce colectivo hacia estas dimensiones superiores crea un cambio exponencial en nuestro pensamiento y acciones. En la quinta dimensión, podemos procesar la información con mucha más eficiencia. Al trabajar con vibraciones más altas, tanto los problemas como las soluciones ocurren a una velocidad mucho mayor. En este nuevo mundo, los valores culturales del siglo XX ya no nos sirven. Las guerras son pasajeras y no se tolera la violencia mutua. La co-creación para el bien de todos reemplaza al capitalismo para unos pocos privilegiados, la opresión da paso a la liberación, etc. Lo más importante, la mentalidad del industrialismo globalizado ya no funciona y aquellos que no pueden dar el salto a la conciencia se irán a la parra en el campo. tercera dimensión, incapaz de cumplir con los requisitos para vivir en la nueva tierra.
Subyacente a esta visión de una quinta dimensión está la creencia en la capacidad de los humanos de reclamar su conexión directa con una realidad divina y vivir los valores del amor y la justicia, la cooperación y el compartir, la alegría y la tristeza. Estos valores han estado vivos (e ignorados por el mundo desarrollado) en las antiguas tradiciones de las comunidades indígenas de todo el mundo. La transición de la era astrológica de Piscis a la nueva era de Acuario se hace más fácil a medida que retrocedemos al futuro al recuperar las lecciones del zapatismo. Allí entendemos que a medida que nuestra conciencia cambia y nuestras frecuencias aumentan, nos vemos como una familia que se muda a un mundo donde hay espacio para todos. Ya no somos individuos que compiten por los escasos recursos para sobrevivir. Estamos en esto juntos. “Yo” se convierte en “Nosotros” a medida que hacemos una conexión instantánea con la fuente de vida que es el Espíritu. Pertenecemos a la tierra tanto como la tierra nos pertenece a nosotros. Mi comunidad se convierte en la población mundial completa. Todos tenemos un lugar en la mesa de la vida.
